Bathroom Trends

Let’s talk about Bathroom Trends… Now more than ever is the time to develop a bathroom space into something that is calming and soothing.  A space that allows for regeneration of the mind, body and soul.  It’s only fitting that with the rise of the wellness trend and the move towards looking inwards, the bathroom is now seen as sanctuary in the home where luxury abounds.  Keep reading for our edit of bathroom trends …

The Zen bathroom is minimal but has impact with finishes that are elegant and simple.  The outlook is for light colour ways with the inclusion of a deep soaking tub. Lighting in the form of under-cabinet strip lighting easily sets the relaxing mood.  A sense of spaciousness is achieved with placement of fittings allowing an easy flow of energy.  Minimal, natural and refined, styling the Zen bathroom looks to a refined sense of luxe with a touch of greenery and stylish bath oils on hand to add to the relaxation.

Bathroom Renovations - The Inside Project

Whether its a single vanity or double sinks the joinery focus is on natural timber joinery finishes that add warmth and depth to the bathroom.  Timber exudes a sense of the outdoors and of being in nature whilst also adding a perfect tactile finish to your space.  Shelving, hooks, vanities, mirror surrounds, timber look ceramic tiles, towel ladders or artwork,  the details where timber finishes could be added are endless.

Tapware and fittings continue with their unpolished finishes in tones of soft gold, brass, pewter and bronze hues, which add a tactile factor your space.  Colours might be a bit fanciful, but designs are streamlined and modern.  Added to timber, these fittings add a sense of warmth with their unpolished, raw state.

The classic marble tile with its myriad of tones and hues, is ubiquitous in every stylish bathroom.  This trend has certainly been on the rise for a while now adding interest and warmth, and doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere soon.  For use in mosaic or feature walls, countertop or large format tiles, marble exudes a stylish finish that, by its very inclusion, elevates a bathroom to a luxe destination.

A beautiful curve of a freestanding tub, the curve of tap ware, the curves of a fluted glass screen or even the curve of the inside of a shower wall lends a lovely aesthetic to current bathroom design.  We see a lot of organic, curved finishes come through interior design into the bathroom leaving a soft, almost a cocooning feel.  After  the year we’ve had, a sense of cocooning and reflection seems to be much needed.

In keeping with the current trend for ‘naturalness’ colours will move into outdoorsy hues.  Sandy colours of the desert, warm walnut timber hues of the forests, cool tones of pebbles from a river bed and soothing colours of the Australian landscape.  Just look at the current Pantone colours of the year for 2021,  a duo of  ‘Ultimate Grey’- borrowing from earthiness and natural grey of pebbles providing a foundation for the everyday whilst ‘Illuminating’ adds the solar energy from above, providing clarity, hope and a sense of vitality.

Using terrazzo tiles in cool greys interspersed with pebble like features lend a depth to floors and feature walls.   Natural ‘artisan’ glazed Kit Kat tiles for walls add a soothing and interesting feature.  Large format ochre and tan ceramic tiles blend the expanse of the outdoors inside.  Add the styling effect of plants, whether hanging or in ceramic pots, and your space will be exude a sense of vitality and strength.

Whilst we want to get the feel of the natural outdoors, we certainly don’t want to go without the luxury accessories & extras.  Soft close mechanisms for toilet lids & remote control flushing, no touch tap ware, sensor lighting, underfloor heating, timer set bath fills, under cabinet lighting, temperature controlled water levels, and domed skylight features are added to the natural ‘themes’  that elevate bathrooms to the present day luxe status.
