Williamstown Kitchen

This beautiful Williamstown townhouse was in a very pink rut. From the carpet, to the architraves, and even the door handles – it was pink as far as the eye could see. The project scope was across the whole house and the brief was for lots of storage, lots of white and lots of light.

The downstairs layout was no surprise for the era of the house – a kitchen separate from the living + dining area, and an adjacent small laundry and toilet. This inevitably led to the area being a series of small, poorly lit spaces so we knew we had to open the area to allow the natural light to fill the space.

Whilst the client lost some bookshelves with the wall removal, the openness of the space and ability to incorporate more storage into the kitchen made the change worthwhile. We incorporated the laundry behind bi-fold doors and actually ended up with more storage than the previous separate room.

One of the main goals for the whole area was for a minimalist design. This was achieved through integrated or white appliances to blend with the white joinery. The client fell in love with a gorgeous Smeg freestanding cooker and the simplicity of the rest of the space allowed this piece to shine. The matt white joinery is offset by the soft veins of the marble-look engineered stone bench top, and a subtly patterned gloss white splash back.

Beneath the carpet on the staircase was the hidden gem of hardwood oak timber, which was in impeccable condition. To keep this theme running throughout the downstairs area and ensure that the space was rid of all things pink, we installed a warm engineered timber floor.

The original pink theme continued into the bathroom, so we carried the palette up stairs to a new bathroom tying all the spaces together in a classic design.
