This Kensington home, like many in the area, was built around 20 years ago so in need of revitalisation.
The original U-shaped layout closed the space off to the dining/living area. We made a small, but impactful, change to an L-shape with an island.
This opened the kitchen up to allow much more movement through the whole space.
Whilst the space has nice natural light, the drab colours of the previous kitchen didn’t enhance this.
To modernise the space, without stepping too far from the style of the home, we laid new timber floors across the entire ground floor.
The kitchen cabinetry was deliberately kept quite simple with white base & tall units & simple stainless handles. To add warmth we mirrored the timber finish of the floor in the tall oven tower and overhead cabinetry. Without the addition of this element, the design would have been too stark.
Adding soft green, in both the splashback and island cabinetry, adds interest to the design, without being too ‘on-trend’ (something our clients were wanting to avoid).
The thin profiled porcelain benchtop was a late change, due to the silica surfaces ban, but the result is arguably better than what it would have been.
Appliances were also upgraded at this time, including the removal of the gas cooktop for a much more efficient electric induction.
The final result is a lighter and brighter space, with clean lines & surfaces, ready for the next 20 years of living.
