Client: Williamstown Laundry
Designer: Ashlee Stark and Kara Turner
This beautiful laundry, bathroom and powder room area was the result of a renovation that included a small extension to this circa 1915 Edwardian home in Williamstown.
The main requirement for this laundry was the usual culprit – lots of storage. The laundry needed to be able to cater for a family of 5 (plus Sparky the dog), so whilst it needed to be very functional, a huge factor was also that it was a beautiful space within which the client spends a lot of time washing and folding laundry.
A long bench was incorporated, above which there is a hanging rail, below a space for Sparky’s bed. The washing machine and dryer were raised within the cabinetry, with large drawers below for dirty washing. A mudroom was incorporated towards the external door, with plenty of room for school bags and dirty shoes.
Having 3 kids creeping up the their teens, it was our challenge to incorporate a bathroom and powder room separately so that 2 or 3 people could be using the shower, toilet and a vanity all at one time…all within a tight space! The final result successfully achieved this, with nothing feeling cramped.
The use of shaker style cabinets, traditional tapware, marble look bench tops and tiles, and warm grey finishes ensured that the functional new design fit in with the traditional style of the house.
