Client: Williamstown Bathroom
Designer: Jacqui Hughes
At the end of a quiet laneway, tucked away out of sight, lies our client’s home. Like a hidden oasis of calm and tranquillity from the moment you gain entry into the front courtyard and glimpse the shimmering plunge pool at the side, you are greeted with the amazing tiled foyer featuring the earthen hues of Mutina’s ‘Tierras’ range of stunning terracotta floor tiles,
Before you head up to the first floor, a downstairs bathroom draws your attention as you follow the pattern of the earthen colours of the Mutina Tierras floor tiles. The rich tone of the oak vanity unity adds more subtle warmth. Topped with a gleaming cast marble top it is all elegance and simplicity.
The frameless shower screen sections off the stepless shower which is bathed in natural light from the skylight above. Truly like bringing the outdoors inside. Who wouldn’t want to take a soothing shower at the end of the day while you gaze up at the stars?
Up to the first floor, where the existing kitchen area was re-designed, taking inspiration from the clay, earthen colours of the foyer floor. Low cabinets were finished in a dark matt laminate and the overheads are the hero of the space, finished in a subtle metallic sheen. Storage was integrated to create and utilize as much space as possible. By using cabinet inserts, lift-up doors and drawers in the kickboards, we engineered usable space at every level.
Existing tiling, parquetry and carpet throughout the kitchen, dining and living areas was removed and replaced with beautiful oak flooring. The timber theme was carried through to the ensuite on the first level also, with the same finishes used as the bathroom downstairs to create consistency and harmony.
This was a fantastic project to work on, with the clients trusting the design process and embracing colour and texture.
